One of the very first questions we are asked by people when they find out we are launching Dovetail Ministries is “where do you attend church?”
We begin to explain that we moved here to WI years ago and although we’ve visited a number of churches, we haven’t felt a desire to commit to any one church.
We continue on our own to read and study as well as spend time in prayer and worship.
I realize that many would argue that the Word indicates we should not stop going to church. Hebrews 10:24-25 says “And let us consider together how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another – and all the more as you see the day approaching.”
However, we had been in the church for over 30 years in Pennsylvania where we were Elders. Greg was head of maintenance, did teaching in the prison and the local mission as well as working as the sound tech for our worship team. Linda was the worship leader, helped teach the youth and worked as the church treasurer. Both of us were Outreach leaders where we went out to a variety of events and other state churches where we led worship and held Bible study. We also helped as mentors to individuals when needed.
Having spent those years under the teaching of our Pastors, we now find ourselves in Matthew 28:19-20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you…” Matthew also says in 18:20 that “For where two or three gather in my name, there I am with them”. I have read that a number of churches are spending time teaching the congregation and then sending out those who become mature enough to move out into ministry. After much prayer, this is now our opportunity to obey the Great Commission that Jesus taught.
We will never tell any believer to stop going to their church. We strongly believe that it is necessary for them to have fellowship with one another, especially a new believer.
We will not speak against another church’s teachings but would rather point them back to their own Pastor regarding any disagreement they may have. We are very much against division.
We do not believe the Lord is calling us to start a new church but only to give anyone the opportunity to call us or write us on our website and ask for prayer or assist with questions regarding scripture. This is open for anyone whether they attend a church or not. We do not want anyone to feel uncomfortable or afraid. We have learned how to speak the truth in Love, without judgment. We are not counselors or therapists, just two people who have a lot to share for the Glory of God.
Please feel free to ask for prayer. We hope this new site encourages you.
